Healthy blood pressure
Physiologically everybody has a blood pressure. Without this blood would not be able to circulate in the body. Without blood vital organs cannot get oxygen that is vital for a good function. Also a disturbed blood pressure will affect all these; therefore it is important to know how to keep a normal level of the blood pressure.
Blood pressure refers to the force with which the blood circulated through arteries when the heart is beating (systolic pressure and when the heart is resting (diastolic pressure). It is measured in mercury millimeters and it is noted with the abbreviation mm HG.
The proper normal level of the blood pressure is not exactly established; we can talk about the blood pressure of each individual. When the heart beats, it pushed the blood through arteries, creating a certain pressure.
The blood pressure results from two forces: one created by the heart that is pumping the blood through the bloodstream system and the other one is the force of the arteries that are resisting the blood discharge.
If you are a healthy person the arteries will maintain their elasticity and brawn. They stretch every time the blood is pumped. The degree in which they stretch is pressure that it has on the blood. In normal conditions that heart beats 60-80 times per minute.
The healthy blood pressure is considered around the values of 130/85. The normal blood pressure is different for each sex, men and women, and for different ages. A blood pressure that is healthy for an adult is 120 (systolic) and 80 (diastolic). The values of the blood pressure are usually higher with men and with persons with the age over 40-45 years. In case the values of the blood pressure are between 140/90 and 159/99, we are talking about a small hypertension. Moderate hypertension has values between 160/100 and 179/109, and high hypertension has values of 180/110 and 209/119 or even more.
Normally it is the duty of your physician to measure the blood pressure more than one time before deciding if you are having hypertension or hypotension. If we wish to measure the blood pressure by ourselves we need to know that the higher number (systolic pressure) represents the pressure of the blood when the heart is beating and the lower number (diastolic pressure) is the blood pressure while the heart is resting between beating. The systolic pressure is the first shown before the diastolic pressure.
The increase of the blood pressure is a major risk for a heart attack and it is generally considered as being the biggest factor of risk in a stroke.
Doctors are firstly concerned about the diastolic pressure persons with a normal diastolic pressure (under 82 mm Hg) but with an increase systolic pressure (over 158 mm Hg) have a double risk of dying from a hard attack or a stroke in comparison with people that have a normal systolic pressure (under 130 mm Hg). The blood pressure is usually increasing also as a cause of daily stress and increased physical effort.
